How to Bonsai - The Trunk and Roots

The Importance of The Trunk and The Roots

The trunk is what gives the Bonsai its character and makes it an incredible and unique living sculpture. The trunk gives the Bonsai its grace and strength.

The bark of the tree has three distinct and beneficial functions. The bark is waterproof, so it keeps moisture in the tree. The bark protects the tree from impacts, attacks from pests and diseases, and abrasions. The bark houses lenticels, which are small structures that allow the tree to breathe.
